Caroline Maguire MBACP
Are you coping on the outside but struggling underneath?
You don’t have to keep feeling this way.
Together we can understand what’s keeping you stuck, and work towards creating a happier, more confident version of you.
You deserve more than simply getting through each day. I’ll help you make sense of what’s happening, recognise the patterns that may be holding you back, and explore practical ways to help you move forward.
I'm Caroline, MBACP, and I offer compassionate therapy for adults, online throughout the UK and in person in Henfield, West Sussex (between Brighton and Horsham) and Steyning (near Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing).

Are you a professional holding down a job, but inside you feel anxious & overwhelmed? Maybe you lack self-confidence, struggle with imposter syndrome, are highly self-critical, and wonder, ‘Is life supposed to feel this hard?’
Are you…
Finding it difficult to switch off — perhaps affecting your sleep?
Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or close to burnout?
Living with a harsh inner critic?
Putting other people's needs before your own?
Experiencing difficulties in relationships or repeating patterns you don't understand?
Wondering whether experiences from your childhood are still affecting you today?
You don't have to know exactly what's wrong before coming to counselling. Sometimes we simply know that something isn't right. That life feels harder than it should. Or that we can't keep responding to things in the same way.
You might arrive knowing exactly what you want to work on. Or you might simply know:
"I can't keep feeling like this."
That's enough.
Counsellors work in different ways, and I believe it's important that counselling is tailored to you.
I offer a flexible integrative approach, which means I draw on different therapeutic models and adapt our sessions to you, your circumstances and what we are working on.
I work with adults struggling with:
…to name but a few.
How counselling can help"Caroline has helped me understand my patterns of behaviour in a caring, considerate and compassionate way. She taught me how to be kind to myself and I now find it easier to stay grounded and in control of my feelings…"
Choose the setting that feels right for you. All sessions are confidential, 50 minutes, and begin with a free 20-minute conversation.

"Counselling doesn't always have to mean sitting and talking for 50 minutes. Sometimes talking is exactly what you need. Sometimes, however, words aren't enough."
If it feels helpful, I also use creative exercises to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences — using paper, drawing, colour, objects, clay or other simple activities. Sometimes we'll simply get out some pens and paper.
Creative exercises can provide another way of exploring something that you may understand intellectually but find difficult to connect with emotionally or put into words.
You don't need to be artistic. In fact, there is no artistic skill required at all. The most important part of counselling is the relationship and feeling safe enough to be yourself.

Yes. As a welcome offer, you can save 10% on your first 5 sessions when you pay for them in advance. It is entirely optional and most people simply pay session by session, so please do not feel any pressure to take it up.
Yes, I do. I offer a free, informal 20-minute conversation, with no obligation to continue, so you can ask questions, see how it feels to talk with me, and decide whether working together feels right for you. Many people find it easier to take that first step knowing there is no commitment involved.
Online sessions offer flexibility and are open to anyone across the UK, all you need is a good internet connection and a quiet, private space. In-person sessions, held in Henfield or Steyning in West Sussex, allow for a different quality of connection and also make it possible to incorporate creative work using art materials if that feels right. Walk and talk sessions take place outdoors at Devil's Dyke or Knepp. All three offer the same confidential, non-judgemental space. It is simply a matter of finding what suits you best.
Counselling is not only for times of crisis. If something in your life doesn't feel quite right, whether that is anxiety, a sense of being stuck, relationship difficulties, grief, or simply wanting to understand yourself and your patterns a little better, it is worth having a conversation. You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out. Part of the process is gently exploring what is going on for you together.
Yes. Losing a pet can feel just as painful as losing a person. Your grief is real, valid and deserves to be taken seriously — whatever others around you may say. I understand pet loss both professionally and personally.
More about pet bereavement counselling →There is no fixed answer, and I would never want to pressure you into a set number of sessions. Some people come with something specific they want to work through over a shorter period. Others find that as one thing settles, they want to continue exploring. I suggest regular reviews to ask you how things are going and look at our progress. You are free to stop at any point.
The first session is simply a chance for us to get to know each other. You can share what has brought you to counselling, as much or as little as feels comfortable, and I will answer any questions you have about how I work. You do not need to prepare anything or have it all figured out. We take things at your pace, right from the start.
Send a message, call or email, whichever feels easiest. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.
I offer a free initial 20-minute conversation, with no obligation to continue. It's an opportunity to tell me a little about what's brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right counsellor for you. You do not need to prepare anything.
